On Labor Day, over 500
bikers from the Diocese of Pasig joined the “Bike for CHAMP 2013 Elections” organized
by the local Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) in support
of the diocese’s advocacy “I Choose God, I Vote Good”.
The 17-km route which
circled Pasig, Taguig and Pateros commenced at 5 o’clock in the morning at Plaza
Rizal in front of the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral. As the bikers rode to
the first light of day, the curiosity of the citizens they passed by was
stimulated. The goal of the cycling event which was to promote awareness on
voters’ education was ultimately achieved. Not only Catholic faithfuls stood up
for the cause, but a few members of the Muslim and Protestant communities extended
their support as well.
After a 2-hour bike ride,
the participants assembled back in Pasig Catholic College to culminate the
activity with a Eucharistic celebration presided by Bishop Mylo Vergara. In his
homily, the bishop presented the stand of the Diocese of Pasig in the coming
elections and enlightened the attendees regarding the advocacy “I Choose God, I
Vote Good”.
The event was also graced
with the presence of Ms. Ginny de Villa, daughter of PPCRV Chair Tita de Villa,
to acknowledge the effort of the Diocese of Pasig as well as to emphasize the
goal of PPCRV to achieve a Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful and Peaceful
elections this 2013.
