Bishop Mylo endorses "Live Christ, share Christ" Missionaries

The following is the complete text of Bishop Mylo's endorsement of the "Live Christ Share Christ" missionary workers' evangelization efforts.

Aware of the many issues and concerns confronting our people today especially those that delve on moral principles I would very much welcome in our diocese of Pasig movements and organizations who will stand for Christ and his teachings.

The missionary workers of Live Christ, Share Christ (LCSC) is a Christian Catholic lay organization devoted to Evangelical missions and value formation initiatives.  In its desire to bring about moral recovery and values transformation to different institutions, they have initiated "Live Christ, share Christ" whose mission is geared towards grassroots lay evangelization.

In connection with the Year of the Laity celebration and in response to the pressing needs of the times I am endorsing to your Reverences the "Live Christ, Share Christ" to help out with your evangelization ministry.  We hope and pray that many more lay members of the Church will heed our Lord's command to go and proclaim the good News of salvation.

Pasig Diocese to Hold General Assembly of Health Care providers

The Diocese of Pasig Health Care Ministry will hold its First General Assembly of the Health Care providers of the diocese with the theme: "I was ill and you cared for me" (Mt. 25, 36).  The purposes of the activity are to give recognition and appreciation the the Health Care providers during the Year of the Laity and to strengthen and energize their spiritual life by making them realize that they are instruments of the tender, loving care of God.  It is in this field of work that Health Care providers are "called to be saints, chosen to be brave, and sent forth as heroes."

In a letter addressed to all parish priests, DPHCM Director Fr. Joven Antique is calling on all parishes to send at least five representatives from the Health Care organizations to attend this gathering.

"This will be a great moment to uplift the Spirit of the Laity who are engaged in taking care of our sick brethren whom Jesus identified with, 'When I was ill, you cared for me,'" mentioned Fr. Joven.

Vocations Ministry, an addition to Parish Ministries

The Commission of Vocations intends in the Year of the Laity to establish in every parish of the Diocese of Pasig a Parish Vocation Ministry or PVM.

According to Vocations Director Fr. Loreto Sanchez, Jr., the PVM is a special ministry aimed at promoting vocations to the diocesan priesthood and religious life.  It will be composed of selected lay faithful who possess commendable love for priests.

The parish priests are invited to send three representatives, one of them preferably the head of the Parish MBG, to the first gathering of Diocesan Vocation Promoters on August 9, 2014, 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the San Felipe Neri, ICC Formation Center.

In a letter addressed to the parish priests, Fr. Jhun asks the faithful to pray for the promotion of vocations.  "Our prayer, morever, should lead us to action so that from our imploring heart may arise the readiness of our young to say "yes" to God's call," said Fr. Jhun.

Homiletic Tips for 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

by Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara, D.D.

God is compassionate and provides for those in need:

1) Reading from Isaiah: God assures a people in exile that he will provide for them with no cost, that they will experience wine, milk, and rich food without spending money;

2) Responsorial Psalm: The Lord's compassion grants the desires of those in need;

3) Reading from Romans: Nothing can hinder us from the love of Christ who provides for us even when we are worried, troubled or lacking in the basic necessities of life;

4) Gospel of Matthew: The multiplication of the loaves and fish for the hungry crowd shows Jesus' compassion but invites us to do our share of compassion for everyone to have their fill;

5) To give without counting the cost means:

G-enerosity without conditions,
I-nterest in helping those in need,
V-igor in giving,
E-nabling others to give;

6) A final thought: Everything we have belongs to God. We own nothing. As stewards of God's blessings, we are called to share what we have, most especially to the poor in our midst.
Advise to preachers: When you preach well, people give generously during mass.
