April 26: Day of Professionals

22 APRIL - Mark your calendar this April 26: this is the Day of Professionals.

Announced by the Diocesan Family and Life Ministry, prayers will be offered for our professionals who have helped us in areas where we need professional help. The Panalangin para sa mga Propesyonal is given by the ministry to be recited in all masses this April 26. The prayer goes this way:

"O Lord, we pray for all professionals: doctors, lawyers, teachers, caregivers, engineers, architects, and all those trained to be of service to your people in various fields of human need and undertaking. They have undergone long years of study and education to perfect the skills you gave them. Thank you for all those years, particularly for the talent you have shared to us through them.

Help them realize that all their gifts are given for the good of the whole human race in the spirit of stewardship in Jesus' name. May they utilize their talents that others may see in them the reflection of your infinite perfection. May they be drawn to the wellspring of life that only you can give.

With the help of Mary our Mother, we ask you this in the name of your beloverd Son in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The parish was erected last September 10, 1969 and it indeed has a very colorful and magnificent history.

Not like other parishes who celebrate their patron’s feast day annually, Sta. Rosa de Lima Parish celebrates theirs every other year. In celebration of this tradition, the last feast day was celebrated in Bagong Ilog on August 24, 2008. This glorious tradition was already agreed upon by both barangay Bagong Ilog and Sumilang several decades ago which was unanimously discussed by the elders of the barangays based on the history of the patron’s discovery.

Bishop of Pasig endorses "Padre de Pamilya"

MARCH 26 - Pasig bishop Francisco San Diego, D.D. followed the stream of bishops in the Metropolitan See of Manila in endorsing "Padre de Pamilya" as a mode for families to obtain a free bible for every household.

In a letter sent to all the priests in the diocese of Pasig, bishop Francisco likened having a bible to having a crucifix in every home. "Just like the crucifix, every Catholic home must have a bible in which the family life is centered and where they receive spiritual nourishment," announced the bishop.

For every ticket bought, a bible will be provided for every family in the program "Isang Biblia, Bawat Pamilya."

According the the letter endorsed by the Archbishop and the bishops of the Metropolitan See, "Padre de Pamilya" is an independent film about a Catholic family struggling to survive in a corrupt-laden society. It stars Ariel Rivera and Jacklyn Jose.

It will be shown in the SM Theaters from April 29 to May 5, 2009. Tickets will be sold at P130 each.

The Archbishop and bishops of the Metropolitan See of Manila are composed of Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Reyes, Cubao Bishop Hoonesto Ongtioco, Kalookan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez, Jr., Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Roderick Pabillo, Novaliches Bishop Antonio R. Tobias, Paranaque Bishop Jesse Mercado, and our Pasig Bishop Francisco C. San Diego.

Paschal Mystery and the integrity of creation

MARCH 31 - "One of the big issues we have to face in our time is that of the environment: the destruction of God's creation."

This was revealed by Fr. John Leydon in a recollection given to the Clergy of the Diocese of Pasig last March 31.

Dr. Leydon indicated that something catastrophic will happen in the next 50 years unless people change their ways.

Unfortunately, this issue is not connected with our faith in Jesus, Christ crucified.
"Unlike the people of indigenous culture who are connected to the elements and all beings and there is a sense of the Sacred in creation all around them, we have lost that connectedness; nature for us is just a bunch of objects to be processed for human use. We have lost our sense of the sacred in god's creation. Worse, we have labeled it "progress" and "development."

Fr. Leydon connected creation with the paschal mystery. "Jesus is the second person of hte Trinity, but he is also the flowering of God's creation. The modern story of creation tells us of a single unfinished event from energy, to matter, to the first life cell, to mulitcellular life, to humanity. Jesus emerges out of this process not as an infividual human being but as representing all of humanity and all of creation."

Fr. Joven Antique is the minister for the newly created Ministry of Ecology of the Diocese of Pasig.
